Sweet And Salty For Breakfast? Why Not!

These are so fun to prepare.  Just create French toast as you normally would, but then take each slice of bread and wrap a sausage inside of it.  Now, if you are on the go, these are great to just pop in a container and eat as finger food.  But if you are staying home, serve it with a side of maple syrup and dip them in that.  I love it and kids love it, too.

It is tasty, filling and fun to eat, which is exactly why I make it so often! Check out what our friends over at Cinnamon-Spice and Everything Nice had to say about these:

“Because wrapping french toast around sausage makes an everyday food special and a whole lot more fun to eat. Especially for kids who love using their hands – these were made for dunking.”

Oh yeah! I am not even a kid and what excites me most about these is dunking them in the syrup. So, so good!

Ingredients

8 – 10 breakfast sausages

8 – 10 slices white or wheat sandwich bread (the soft, fluffy type)

2 eggs

¼ cup McArthur milk

¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

a splash of vanilla extract

butter, for greasing the pan

Aunt Jemima maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

Cook the sausages according to package directions.

Meanwhile trim the crust from the bread and flatten it out with your hands or a rolling pin.

In a shallow bowl whisk the eggs, milk, cinnamon and vanilla together.

Roll each sausage up in a piece of bread and trim the ends off to fit the sausage – or not – it’s up to you.

Heat a clean 10-inch skillet over medium heat and add a pat or two of butter.

Dunk each roll into the egg, coat completely, let excess drip off and place in the pan.

When the the bottoms are browned turn with tongs to cook and brown on all sides.

Serve with maple syrup for dunking.
