How To Turn A Hoagie Into A Dip

Any Philly natives out there? You must know that iceberg lettuce is the only way to go, when it comes to hoagies, right?

If you’re not from Philly then use whatever type of lettuce your heart desires, haha! I used mozzarella for this dip, but you could go with any kind of cheese. If you’re trying to watch your figure then I would recommend low-fat mayonnaise, and maybe not adding salami. But come on, no-one wants to do that! I can’t wait for the next game night – I’m going to make a double batch of this, for sure!

Ingredients

1/4 lb salami, chopped

1/4 lb ham, chopped

1/2 head of iceberg lettuce, shredded or chopped

1/2 onion, diced finely

1 handful of shredded cheese, I prefer provolone or mozzarella

1/2 cup Hellmans’ mayo

1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon dried oregano

2 Tablespoons Italian dressing

salt and pepper to taste

optional: banana peppers, chopped tomato

baguette bread, chips or crackers for dipping

Instructions:

Chop onion and lettuce. Add the other optional ingredients at this time, such as chopped tomatoes or banana peppers. Combine and set aside.

Chop meats and add cheese. Add to onion/lettuce mixture.

Combine mayonnaise, italian dressing and dry seasonings. Mix well and add to meat/onion mixture.

Chill for a few hours so the flavor really blends together. I served the dip a with toasted, sliced baguettes.

Quick tip: Add this on toast, and drizzle a little hot sauce on top. Mouth-watering!
