Topsy-Turvy Upside Down Apple Cake: Perfect For Fall Tea Parties

Apple desserts are the best.  They can be served for breakfast or dessert.

You can brighten them up by adding chopped fruit or keep it plain and luxurious by adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  Either way, you serve it, apple desserts can be really handy.  If you have houseguests over a lot, it is a pretty safe bet to make something with apples since most people do enjoy them. My favorite way to prepare them is apple crisp, but that takes a lot of work on the spot that I want to be enjoying with my guests.

Recently, my neighbor Anne rushed over with a new cake she had made.  It was an apple upside down cake.  She had taken her cue from a recent pineapple upside down cake and made many upside down cakes using different fruit.

Banana upside-down cake was not a real hit, but apple upside down cake was apparently the best she had ever tried.  After taking a bite, I knew it was a keeper.  It was light and fluffy, but still sinfully delicious with a bit scoop of ice cream.  This is the perfect dessert to prepare ahead of time before your guests arrive.
