This is a quick and easy meal to throw together on a weeknight when you’re feeling a bit pressed for time. It was wholesome, hearty, and pretty good.
I left the salt out of this recipe and just used the onion soup mix. Between the onion soup packet and the cream of mushroom soup there is definitely enough salt to go around. You want a meal, not a blood pressure raiser, right? Haha! Although, my husband added salt to his serving but he is sort of a salt-a-holic.
Ingredients
6 large pork chops
6 medium potatoes
Gold Medal flour
Lipton onion soup mix – 1 packet
1 large can Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup
1/2 can(s) water
Wesson oil
Morton Salt to taste
Instructions
1. Peel potatoes and cut into round slices. Layer bottom of large casserole dish with potatoes. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
2. Coat pork chops with flour.
3. Heat oil in large skillet and brown pork chops on each side.
4. Arrange pork chops on top of potatoes.
5. Heat soup with water, mix in onion soup packet, and pour over pork chops and potatoes. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours.

Quick Tip: Nothing goes better with pork chops than homemade applesauce!
question from a Canadian–what is a LARGE can of mushroom soup? we only have one size here–the normal 10 3/4 oz can–is that what you mean?? if not, what is the amount of ounces in a large can? would love to make this recipe but need clarification first
A large can of cream of mushroom soup is considered Family Size & is 26 ounces. (1 lb. 10 oz.) or (737 g)
Thank you Estelle, from another Canadian interested in this answer 🙂
thanx, Estelle for the clarification
Thanks for the clarification regarding size of soup..guess you would have to use 2 reg size tins if you don’t have that family size !! We don’t have that size here in Barbados either….
I am allergic to mushrooms, could you use cream of chicken soup instead of the mushrooms?
I think cream of celery soup would be even better than the cream of mushroom.
Celery soup very good
How thick do you suggest slicing the potatoes?
I wouldn’t do over 1/4 inch.
I’ve been making this for 30 years. I put in uncooked rice. No potatoes, no onion soup. 1 10 oz can mushroom soup, I can water, you also can add chopped onion and celery. This is a true throw together, don’t get caught up in the details. Bake an hour 350, covered. Just make sure you follow the rule of 2 to 1 for rice as you normally do.
