My brother and his family were coming home from being overseas for nearly three years. They had done the military life and now they were ready to return to their hometown. Some of my family members hadn’t seen these guys for the entire period they were gone.
To celebrate their arrival home, we were hosting a big backyard BBQ with all of the family and their closest friends. Of course, me being the party planner, I put myself in charge of the menu. The entrees were easy because I just assigned them out potluck style.
Then came the desserts. My brother had a huge sweet tooth so I really wanted to surprise him with something he had never had before. I found this recipe for layered dessert on Recipe Lion and I knew it was exactly what I was looking for.
After some heartfelt hellos, hugs, and a few tears, we dug into the meal. I couldn’t wait to present this cake to my favorite big bro. He dove in and ate two more pieces.
Then he asked me to make it for his birthday the next month. “As long as you stay put!” We were so happy to have him home.
