Sentimental Spice Cake

Heading across the country to visit my Grandparents always brought up mixed emotions for me when I was younger. The idea of being in the backseat of our station wagon for 12 plus hours crammed next to my siblings was not always a nice thought.

I loved them, but that’s a tiny spot to share for half a day. However, arriving at Granny and Granddad’s after that trip always made it worth it. No matter what time of the day or night we arrived, my Grandma always had a dessert ready for us.

Usually it was a cake or cookie of some kind, and we were always famished by the time we got there. We ate on the road, but there’s nothing like sitting down to a normal table to eat.

My parent’s weren’t wild about us eating desserts like spiced cake at midnight, like this one on Recipe Lion, but hey, when you’re at Grandma and Grandpa’s there are no rules!

I usually took advantage of that when we were having her famous cake and grabbed a second slice. Sorry Mom and Dad!
