Oreo Cookie Lumps Of Coal – Have You Been Naughty Or Nice this Year?

This is a such a fun treat to make and is sure to bring about lots of laughter. I made these yummy lumps of coal last year and wrapped them in plastic wrap and then placed them in 3 Christmas stockings. I hid the kids’ filled stockings and gave them these gag ones instead. You should have seen their faces haha! I know, I’m a mean old mama haha! It was all in good fun and they enjoyed eating their “coal”.

See what our friends from Simply Scratch had to say about this recipe:

Okay, so they’re so extremely black they almost look inedible. Because they look just. like. coal. But taste a gazillion times better… because, um chocolate! They bake up pretty quickly because hot oven+cookie dough = little spread. And I didn’t want thin cookies… ya know?

I can think of a few little turkeys who could use some coal in their stockings this year LOL! Lucky for them, this is the tasty kind.

Ingredients

1-1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1-1/4 cups black cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 kosher Morton salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup Domino dark brown sugar
2 large eggs
1-1/2 cups chocolate chips (pick your favorite)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. And line a rimmed sheet pan with a silicon liner or parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt, then set off to the side.

In the bowl of your stand mixer add butter and sugars, mix on low to medium-low until combined. Add one egg at a time and mix after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl before gradually adding the dry ingredients. Mix until thoroughly combined. Add in the chocolate chips and mix until incorporated.

Using a 2-tablespoon scoop, place rounded dough onto prepared sheet pan. Bake in preheated oven for 6-8 minutes. If still soft after 8 minutes, bake for 1 minute increments.

Allow cookies to cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
