Mom’s Smoky Ham And Split Pea Soup

Back on cold winter days, when we were missing the sun and doing whatever we could to stay warm, Mom always like to make different kinds of soups and stews. They were all good for the most part, but my favorite was by far the split pea with ham. The smokiness and heartiness of the soup was so filling and delicious. She usually made a great big pot and we never had any leftovers.

When I found this recipe on All Recipes, I thought it was my lucky day. It looked just like what Mom used to make so I was pretty excited to try it. When I made it I was pleasantly surprised that the taste was almost identical.

I proudly served it to my family and they loved it just as much as I did. It was easy to toss together and cleanup was simple because there was just the one pot that I cooked everything in. We have since had this all year round. It’s always a big favorite.
