Hemp Heart Porridge – It’s Uniquely Terrific!

So, lately, I’ve been on a health kick. I’ve learned that a lot of my health issues were due to the overconsumption of sugar. This doesn’t just mean pies, cakes, and cookies, This means carbohydrates that come from “healthy” foods like oatmeal and rice. Who would have ever thought that the foods we’ve been taught are good for us our whole lives might not be so? Anyway, I discovered this yummy hemp heart porridge that makes an excellent substitute for oatmeal.

Add berries, yogurt, or anything non-sugary that you want to the mix. Enjoy!

Ingredients

1 cup non-dairy milk

½ cup Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts

2 tablespoons freshly ground flax seed

1 tablespoon chia seeds

1 tablespoon xylitol or 5 drops alcohol-free stevia

¾ teaspoon McCormick pure vanilla extract

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ cup crushed almonds or almond flour
Toppings

3 Brazil nuts

1 tablespoon Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts

Instructions

Add all ingredients but the ground almonds and toppings to a small saucepan. Stir until combined, then heat over medium heat, just until it begins to boil lightly. No need to cover.

Once bubbling lightly, stir once over and leave to cook for another 1-2 minutes.

Remove from the heat, stir in crushed almonds, and drop into a bowl. Top with toppings and eat immediately.

What is bad for you is not the rice and oats, but the xylitol and Stevia that is in this recipe. Chances are if you raised your own non-gmo veggies and ate fresh, organic meats, your health problems would go away. It is all the chemicals and genetically modified foods that we put in our bodies that are killing us, not the naturally-occurring carbs in the rice and oats.

Not true at all, Lee. Stevia is an herb and when sourced correctly and not mixed with fillers (try the Stevita Brand) it is an excellent sweetener with many health benefits. Xylitol is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol found in most plant material, including many fruits and vegetables. It has amazing oral health benefits. Rice and oatmeal contain carbohydrates and carbohydrates turn to sugar. Your body cannot tell whether they are “naturally occurring” or not, therefore, rice and oats impact your glycemic index, astronomically, which is why diabetics are advised to stay away from grains and starches. There is nothing unnatural about this hemp heart porridge 🙂
