Fresh From The Ocean Maryland Crab Cakes

I met my husband in college at a large university. It was so big, that people from all over the country, and even the world attended. It was nice to get a glimpse of what other people lived like, but it wasn’t so nice when I realized my boyfriend lived hours and hours away from me. It was after we decided that we were going to get serious that he took me back home with him to Maryland for a short break.

While we were there, his mom did all the cooking for us. She said that Maryland was famous for their crab…and was quite shocked and maybe even a little offended when I told her that I had never had crab before. She whipped up these crab cakes faster than I could change my clothes it seemed and had them waiting on the kitchen table when I came down after freshening up.

I was nervous at first because I didn’t want to offend her even more if I didn’t like them. Luckily, and if you’ve ever been to Maryland you already know, they were amazing! I found my own recipe to use from All Recipes after me and my husband got married. He says that they are almost as good as his moms, and I accept that.

Quick Tip: Keep your crab meat in lumps instead of shredding.

I agree…That would have been a lot easier. I guess you didn’t want her to know that you didn’t have a good recipe like hers. I’m sure she was impressed when you asked her for the recipe. She would be pleased to have you prepare a meal for her son with one of your recipes. 🙂

No franks sauce, please!!
Add a frothed up egg white to the mix to keep it lighter.
And yes I am from Maryland, born and bred.
