The Cutest Lil’ Joe’s You’ve Ever Seen!

These directions instruct you to cook these in a skillet on the stove. I have also made them in the oven baking them just until the cheese melts. Perhaps my favorite way though is putting them in the crock pot. I put all the meat in there and then set out a bit of sloppy bar so people can decide what toppings they want to include. Just make sure you have lots of napkins because they can get pretty messy! It’s so worth it though. Check out what they are saying about this recipe over at Spend with Pennies:

Ingredients

12-15 King’s Hawaiian slider rolls (or 6-8 regular hamburger rolls)

1 lb lean ground beef

½ onion, finely diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup kidney beans, drained and rinsed

cheddar cheese

Sauce

2½ tablespoons chili powder

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 green pepper, chopped

14 oz canned Hunt’s diced tomatoes, lightly drained

12 oz tomato sauce

1½ tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons cider vinegar

Topping

½ cup butter

1 tablespoon Domino brown sugar

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1½ tablespoons onion flakes

½ teaspoon poppy seeds

1 teaspoon chili powder

2-3 dashes Frank’s Red Hot sauce

 

 

Instructions

Brown ground beef, onions and garlic until no pink remains. Drain any fat.

Stir in sauce ingredients and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Let simmer 10-15 minutes or until thickened. Stir in beans and set aside.

To Prepare

Preheat grill to medium-high on one side

Place your slider buns in a pan or cast iron skillet. Top with meat mixture and cheddar cheese. Combine topping ingredients and gently spoon over the rolls.

Cook over indirect heat for 18-23 minutes or until cheese melts and chili-joe filling is heated through. Serve warm.
