A Crowd-Pleasing 1-Dish Meal Everyone Wants To Devour

My mother always uses smoked sausage for this meal, but ever since I started making this for my own family, I’ve tried all kinds of variations.

We enjoy spicy food so I often use spicy sausage for this, and also add some extra chilies and a drizzle of hot sauce. I do like to add an onion occasionally, but my picky eater isn’t a fan so I try to chop it as finely as possible, haha! Even if you don’t make any changes at all, you’re going to get a healthy, hearty and tasty meal for the whole family.

Ingredients

1 pkg. smoked sausage

½ medium head cabbage

thinly sliced vegetables of your choice

2 tsp. Old Bay seasoning

1 can (15 oz) chicken broth

1 cup rice (omit, if you’d like)

1 can diced tomatoes with chilies (optional)

Instructions:

Chop the cabbage and other vegetables into bite size pieces.

Chop the sausage into small pieces.

In a large skillet, bring the tomatoes (if using) and chicken broth to a boil.

Stir in Old Bay seasoning.

Add the cabbage and vegetable slices to the skillet and simmer until tender, about 30 minutes.

Stir in the rice (or skip this step, if you’d like to make it without rice).

Add sausage.

Simmer with lid on until the rice is done.

If you need to add more liquid, use boiling water.

Quick tip: So many variations! Add rice, or omit. Add different kinds of veggies each time you make this. Switch to spicy sausage. Use beef or vegetable broth.
