It’s not about that classic fairytale. It was about my niece and why she thought her new friend, the pig Sleeping Beauty, was restless. Over a cup of tea, my sister-in-law told me the story while laughing her heart out. My brother and his wife brought my niece to her parents’ farm for a vacation. They hadn’t seen them for a year and the maternal grandparents begged to see their granddaughter.
Since it’s a farm, there were a lot of animals in there that caught my niece’s attention. And since she has a lot of imagination, she named all of the animals that she liked. One of them was Sleeping Beauty.
It started when the grandfather toured them around the farm and found one of the pigs sleeping. It was a really cute pig, which my niece found pretty. Ever since, she kept calling the pig Sleeping Beauty.
One night, Sleeping Beauty kept making noises, which woke the whole household up since the house was very near the sty. Everyone was cranky the next day and had no patience to deal with a curious child. So during lunch, over a serving of country style ribs, my brother snapped and told her daughter that the reason why Sleeping Beauty was crying was because they’re about to eat one of her friends.
My niece cried her heart out, expressing her utmost sympathy with Sleeping Beauty. It’s safe to say that my brother slept on the couch that night.
