My Aunt and Uncle on my dad’s side were from the South. Every time they came to visit us in Iowa, they always did all the cooking. They loved cooking, and we loved eating! Some of the meals that they made for us were like nothing I had ever tasted before. One such dish was the Cajun dirty rice. When Uncle Ricky first said he was making dirty rice, I thought, “Who wants to eat something that’s dirty?”
So he went through and explained the whole thing to me along with the recipe, which is like this one from All Recipes, and how to make it. I was pretty apprehensive about trying it at first, but it really was something completely different than what I had expected.
It was so yummy and he made enough to feed a small army. Now I make this whenever I’m feeling a little spicy. It’s one of my husband’s favorite meals!
