One of my favorite things in the world is cake. I know, I know, I say that about so many things that I make but it is because I just love food in general. Have you ever heard about love languages?
There is touch, gifts, actions, and a couple of more. Well, I figured out my love language already (and my husband knows it!), it is food! When my husband brings me home an amazing plate of delicious food, I am set and so excited for the day!
It is definitely what I enjoy most (more than flowers, really!). Anyway, I am always on the hunt for a good cake recipe. Lucky for me, my husband also loves cakes so it really is something we bond over.
We sit with a slice of cake and a couple of forks taking bite by bite analyzing every little bit and let me tell you, we have a blast! Well, since I am always on the hunt, I figured I would try something new this time. I have tried apple spice cake, but I have never tried applesauce spice cake. I decided to give it a go and boy am I glad I did!

Quick Tip: Feel free to used canned applesauce if you cannot make your own.
You show cake in a 9×13 and in instructions you say use a different pan. which is best?
Whatever you prefer 🙂 Either work fine.
That pan shown is not 9×13, it looks like a 8×8 or 9×9. My mom always made a applesauce cake in either one of them, but never in a Bunt pan.
in your comments it says small chunks of fresh apples, but I don’t see it in the recipe
I noticed there were no apple chuncks, which pans do better to coat the frosting and let it soak in.
Fresh apple chunks not listed in the ingredients but in your narrative??? How many do you use? Notice 2 others have asked this same question. Please respond. Thank you.
She made her own applesauce so there are still chunks of apples in it. I just made this cake(it’s cooling now) and I added 2 small apples that I grated to it. Looks and smells great!
Tis cake is NOT for me. Too much processed ingredients and sugar.
so why bother leaving a message Victoria? The recipe is for people who WANT to make and EAT it!!!
I’ve made a similar cake like this for years. I use a 9 x 13 pan and top it with a broiled coconut icing. My family loves it and it would stay moist for a long time….I think. Mine never lasted long enough for me to see.
Could we have your recipe for the cake and icing? Please email me at [email protected]
Sandee Goermar,
your icing sounds like something my Mom made that she called “lazy daisy” icing. Can we have your recipe for the cake and the icing? I love applesauce/apple/spice cake at this time of year. Yummo. Please email me at [email protected]. Thanks so much.
I would love to try this cake.
I do not have a bundt pan.
Would I use a 9×13 or 9 inch sq pan. How long would I bake it.
Exactly. Baking directions are for bundt. How long for 9×13 pan?

Why don’t you just test it after maybe 40 minutes?
if you make your own applesauce, as it suggests, you end up with small pieces of apple, unless you puree the apples.
Would this cake be good with a cream cheese frosting?
