I come from a German, Polish, and Hungarian household. My mother was always making dishes that contained cabbage.
I especially loved her recipe for sweet and sour cabbage casserole. The one ingredient that mom never incorporated into her sweet and sour cabbage dish was bacon. I found a recipe that does just that and boy is it ever delightful! I was shocked and amazed when my two boys devoured this cabbage dish as they do not typically eat things like cabbage or sauerkraut. Maybe it was all of the sugar and bacon swimming around the cabbage, who knows and who cares! at least they ate it, right?
