Marvin swore that we wouldn’t see him in a kitchen, ever, because he says he’s too manly to be seen with an apron. Our other guy friends have all protested of course because that sounded like a sexist remark. But Marvin is a true gentleman who respects his mother, his sisters, and his woman friends. It’s just that he has a bit of a history that makes him say stuff he doesn’t mean to at times.
Marvin is the only guy in their house excluding his father. He has five sisters and he’s the youngest. He’s been teased when we were in high school that he was a “Momma’s boy” and up to now, he couldn’t quite get over that and still goes on a defensive mode whenever people start talking about how good his sisters cook and how he might have been inherited the skills too since his mom is a good cook.
What Marvin doesn’t know is that we’re really aware of his good cooking skills. He thought we didn’t know that he wanted to be a chef once but didn’t pursue with it because he’s afraid of being “teased”. He didn’t know that we knew that the desserts being served to us when we used to come to their house were all his doing.
He was the best cook among the six of them and he thought no one knew. Everyone knew. But everyone was mature enough not to give him a hard time anymore because there’s nothing wrong with a guy who loves to cook.
The recipe that you will see on this page reminds me of Marvin’s maple bars which was always served to us. This one uses puff pastry that tastes really good with the mousse. Enjoy!
