My brothers and sisters and I…five of us in total…were raised in the MidWest. When you think of that area of the USA, you probably think of farms, countryside, and home style cooking. And I’m here to tell you that you’re right. That’s exactly what we grew up around…and I wouldn’t change it for the world. One of my Grandma’s best made casseroles is her ham casserole.
We always lived on the same street as our grandparents, and I swear I could smell this when she was making it down the road from us. I would tell Mom and Dad I was eating with them and away I would run, usually with a sibling or two in tow.
She always had plenty to go around and eating with them was a real big treat. I found a recipe that seemed just like hers when I was looking around on All Recipes. I made it at home for my family and everyone just loved it.
We all had a second helping. There’s only three of us so there were some leftovers, but they warmed up perfectly the next day. Every time I make this it takes me back home…and that’s a wonderful experience.
