When I was a little girl I always loved going to the ladies weekly breakfast with my grandma and her friends. They would visit a local eatery/bakery every Wednesday morning.
In the donut case were magnificent pastries all lined up and looking pretty, especially the lattice-topped pies. Grandma told me that I had to order eggs or oatmeal but if I ate it all I could choose something from the pastry case.
Little did grandma know, I was going to choose an entire lattice-topped pie. Grandma asked me why I wanted such a large dessert and I said, “Because it’s pretty!”
