My mom is one of the best storytellers that I know. She loves to talk about her times back when she lived on the farm with her parents. I loved to hear the stories when I was young, and now she tells them all again to my kids, and I love them just the same. She always talks about the animals they had, the work they did, and some of the crazy storms that they had. What we can easily escape from now, they didn’t always have it so easy.
She tells of one such occasion when they had tons of snow piling up outside and they had to get their work done in record time. As a result, nobody was in the house to cook. When they finally got to go in, her mom tossed together an amazing beef stew like this one from All Recipes.
She said by the time they all got their wet clothes off and they cleaned up, it seemed like dinner was done. Grandma made this a lot back then, and my mom made it for me. Now, I make it for my kids. It’s one that’s going to stay in the family for a long time I’m sure.
