A pot filled with steamy soup, hearty vegetables, and sliced hot dogs. This is one of the easiest soups I’ve ever made in my entire life.
Check out what my pals over at Me Lady Cooks had to say about this recipe:
The soup was great! The flavor of the wieners definitely came through and the vegetables added to the depth of flavors. The touch of tomato was just the right thing to bring flavors all together. I wish I’d thought to buy hot dog buns. I’d have cubed them, toasted them in the oven and served them on top of the soup as garnish. That would have been a more complete crazy soup presentation. If you’re in the mood, go for it!
I agree! My family LOVED this soup. Of course, my boys couldn’t stop giggling about the name…and neither could my husband. Okay, I giggled, too!
Ingredients
1 package all-beef wieners
8 cups water
1 cup sliced carrots
1/2 cup diced onions
1/2 cup diced celery
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon minced garlic
pinch of McCormick cayenne
4 cups potatoes; peeled and diced to 1″
1 package coleslaw mix (cabbages and carrots)
15 ounce can Heinz tomato puree
Salt and pepper to taste
cubed and toasted hot dog buns for garnish (optional)
Instructions
To a small soup pot add 8 cups of water and the all-beef wieners. Bring to a boil and let cook for 5 minutes. Remove wieners to a cutting board and set aside.
Add carrots, onion, celery, thyme, garlic and cayenne. Bring to a boil again and reduce to medium high. Simmer for 10 minutes.
Add potatoes, pureed tomatoes and cole slaw mix. Simmer until carrots are fork tender, about 20 minutes more.
Slice wieners and add back to pot. Cook for several minutes, until heated through.
Taste test for seasoning and add salt and pepper to taste.
Serve hot.

Quick Tip: Serve this soup with crusty bread or biscuits. My kids like it with grilled cheese sandwiches.
