Grandma cooked really good Salisbury steak. But because she lived a bit too far from us, I had to settle on the next best thing—the diner’s. Their recipes tasted quite similar, except that nothing could really compare to Grandma’s homemade burger and mashed potatoes. There would always be that “home advantage.”
After eating take-outs for a week, I will do anything for a home-cooked meal most especially if it’s a member of my family who will cook it. It’s not just the taste; it’s the emotion it always brings. One bite and you will be reminded of the reason why home will always be comforting.
Ingredients
2 pounds Tyson ground beef
1 package of Lipton’s French Onion Soup Mix
1/2 cup Keebler cracker crumbs
1 Eggland’s egg
2 (.75-ounces each) packets of McCormick brown gravy mix
1 cup Daisy sour cream
1 can mushroom stems and pieces (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Make hamburger patties using ground beef, bread or cracker crumbs, egg and soup mix. Fry or grill until patties are browned on both sides.
While the hamburgers are cooking; in a bowl mix together the dry gravy mix, water, as needed on the back of gravy instructions, and sour cream. Mix to combine. Spray a 9 x 13 pan with nonstick spray and lay cooked patties in the pan.
Cover the patties with the sour cream and gravy mixture. Bake at covered for 30 to 40 minutes, turning patties halfway through.
