Being born and raised on the outskirts of New Orleans, Louisiana, traditional gumbo is a staple food around our house and at pretty much every social event we go to. I was always in awe watching my older relatives put it together. There was always tons of yummy looking seafoods and sausages…the meat part was always my favorite. It was a complicated process, but it always looked like they were having so much fun.
It gave the ladies, and the men that liked to cook, time to bond, laugh, and share memories. In the end, we were served the most delicious gumbo, like this one I found on All Recipes. Part of growing up in the South is definitely the great food.
It’s one of the many reasons I am so proud to be from the area. Whether you are a native, or just wanting to experience what it’s like here, give this recipe a try for a small taste of our traditional foods.
