Cousin Pete was an overthinker. He’s not allowed to be left alone with his thoughts for too long because he really overthinks a lot.
Ask him about the rain, and he would start to spout stories about the rain that always led to something tragic. He could have been a writer with all of his imaginations, but really, he’s just one big overthinker. He’s a bit paranoid and reads so much into things.
We didn’t realize until recently that the only thing that could take his mind off of these things was a hefty serving of wild mushroom soup. It was during a family reunion and everyone was talking about what’s been happening in our lives. It was the time when we update each other with the progress in our careers, relationships, or just lives in general.
The conversation was brought towards Pete, something that we didn’t want because we knew that he would unconsciously spoil the conversation by stating his thoughts which were often negative. Before he could utter a word though, one of my aunts shoved a spoonful of wild mushroom soup into his mouth.
For a few seconds he looked surprised, but right after, he seemed to forget the conversation and just happily focused his attention to the creamy soup that was suddenly offered to him. I couldn’t say the same thing about dessert though. It seemed not everything could deter him.
