French Onion Soup Made With Love

I always describe soup (any type of soup) as hearty. Why? Because they really soothe the heart both literally and figuratively. Every time I eat soup, it warms me up and makes me happy in a way that comforts me. I guess it feels the same for most. Just recently, I witnessed a wonderful scene between two people that was made warmer by a simple French onion soup.

Whenever I visit my friend’s hometowns, I get to meet the parents who had raised them. A few of our friends came with Mika for her sister’s wedding. We knew her sister Myra so we were invited too.

It was the first time that we got to meet Mika’s parents and they were both wonderful people. The night before the wedding was the night when we arrived. It was Mika’s Mom who let us in.

When we asked where her dad was, she told us that her dad always worked late in the farm because he always made sure everything was in place. He was a hard worker. When he arrived, we were in the middle of eating his wife’s hearty French onion soup.

We witnessed how tired he was, but when his wife served him a bowl, we saw the tender exchange between them before he dug into the soup. His wife never left his side as she talked to us. She was standing beside him, her hand on his shoulder, as he contently ate his soup.

He suddenly looked less tired. That’s comfort from love, folks! And from a soup made out of love!

Quick Tip: The key to a great French onion soup is the caramelized onions.  This step can be done in about a half hour, but if you have the time, slowly caramelize them for a few hours on a low heat.
