When I was growing up, and into my adult years, I always thought of macaroni and cheese as a quick lunch or maybe even a snack. It was never much of a meal to me. That’s probably because ours usually came out of a box. Once and a while I would make a processed cheese version, and boy was that a real treat. It was only after I went to my boyfriend’s family’s Thanksgiving for the first time did I put macaroni and cheese in a different category.
His Aunt Diane had made a baked version of the dish that was like something I had never imagined macaroni and cheese could be. It was so amazing, I went back two times for more. She made a huge pan of it so nobody even noticed…thank goodness.
Before I left I was sure to snag that recipe from her. She gave me one that was just like this one from Food.com. The next time my family got together, this is what I brought. They all thought the same thing I did! Now, it’s a new tradition for us. We never get together without a big ol’ pan of mac and cheese!

Quick Tip: If you have picky eaters, leave the bread crumbs off part of the pan and it’s looks like any other macaroni and cheese.
