The other day, I was at my elderly neighbor’s house. Her name is Mrs. Smith and she has lived on the block since before anyone else lived there. She has so many stories about what the neighborhood looked like before there were any other houses and how clean and beautiful the lake was when it was just opened. After a long discussion with her full of more stories from the neighborhood, she asked me to help her put together a spinach dip she was going to make for a little get together she would be having at her house that evening.
I gathered all of the ingredients and went with her into the kitchen. She sat at the stool at the kitchen counter and one by one told me each step I had to do. I prepared the whole thing for her, all the while listening to all the wonderful stories of her younger years when she was known for this amazing recipes.
I asked her where she got it from, but it turned out she created this herself. She made so many different types over the years that she combined her favorite ingredients and created her own recipe herself. She is quite the woman, with many more recipes just like that hidden deep in her memory!
