My friends enjoy these chocolate apple fritters. They love the combination of apples and the sinful chocolate. It’s also a new twist to apple desserts; something that’s not too common in restaurants. I will choose these homemade chocolate apple fritters over restaurant dessert any time. Our friend over at The Southern Lady Cooks has this to say about this recipe:
“We love apples and I am always looking for new ways to use them in recipes. Apple fritters are a favorite with my family. I thought since I am such a chocoholic, I would try making chocolate apple fritters. We thought they were great sprinkled with powdered sugar and topped with chocolate sauce. I tried them with caramel sauce and ice cream, too. There are so many ways you could serve these chocolate fritters!”
While I am not a huge fan of apples, I love it when they’re in desserts. They’re the type of fruit that absorbs the ingredients, therefore giving the apples a total food makeover. My family is a sucker for apple desserts and it’s always included in every special occasion.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups Gold Medal all-purpose flour
1/4 cup Domino brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons Clabber Girl baking powder
1/2 teaspoon Morton salt
1 1/2 teaspoons McCormick cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon McCormick nutmeg
1 tablespoon Hershey’s cocoa
3/4 cup TruMoo milk
2 Eggland’s eggs
2 tablespoons Land O Lakes butter or margarine, melted
2 teaspoons McCormick vanilla flavoring
3 small apples, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup Hershey’s chocolate chips
1/2 cup Kirkland walnut pieces or nuts of your choice
Wesson Oil for frying
Instructions
Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cocoa and nutmeg in a bowl with a spoon or wire whisk. In another bowl mix milk, eggs, vanilla, butter and beat with whisk. Combine the two bowls and mix well. Fold apples, chocolate chips and nuts into the batter. Pour enough oil into your skillet to make 1/4 inch. Heat oil and drop batter by spoonful into oil. (I use an ice cream scoop for the batter). Cook until done on one side, flip and continue frying until both sides are done. Drain on paper towels.
