Traditional dinners where I come from always included meat, potatoes, and a vegetable.
If that wasn’t on our plates, there was something else going on. Usually, it meant we were having pizza, which didn’t happen very often. Mom was always throwing together roasts, meat loafs, or pork chops, and she usually had baked or mashed potatoes and green beans, corn, or carrots. It was very rare that she would put all of this together in one pot, but when she did, it filled the house with a smell that I will never forget.
She didn’t make boiled dinner too often, but when she did, I was the first one at the table. Back then, I never took the time to figure out how she made the meals she did. It was only after I lived on my own and started having my own kids did I realize I needed to know this stuff!
She pointed me in the direction of this recipe that she found on Facebook for boiled dinner when I asked her about hers. It tastes exactly the same! I was so happy when this came out of the slow cooker.
I only make it a few times a year now, but it’s always incredible.

Quick Tip: You can use ham or beef brisket in place of the pork butt and still get an amazing flavor.
