Growing up, one of my favorite things my mom made was German chocolate cake.
It was the perfect kind of chocolate cake in my opinion. I loved how moist and fluffy it was, yet still oh so rich. It made quite the delicious treat when I would get home from school or on the weekends after my piano lessons. Sadly, her recipe got lost when we moved and she never found it again. Fortunately, when we moved, we met Anne. Our lovely neighbor brought us a welcoming present which was: a German chocolate cake.
Her cake was JUST as tasty as my moms was and I had to be sure to save my mom a slice in case I devoured it all. When my mom got home, I made her taste it right away. She also agreed it was the same cake.
We asked Anne for the recipe and she brought it over. Turns out, it was in a recipe book that my mom accidentally gave away to Goodwill. Needless to say, although we didn’t get the book back, we have the recipe and boy does it feel great!

Quick Tip: If you don’t have buttermilk, use regular milk with a dollop of sour cream.
