This recipe is called Alabama Camp Stew (not Campfire Stew). Camp Stew because it was originally cooked at religious “Camp meetings.” Camp meetings could last several days, and this stew could be kept over a fire for a long time. Of course that was before the meat came in a can. Just FYI – someone has poorly re-named an old classic.

Alabama Camp Stew vs. Campfire Stew Hmmm, poorly renamed? Seems that the two are quite similar, especially since the stew is indeed cooked over a campfire, which I’ve actually had myself, many times.
