My husband and a few of his friends were sweating it out in our backyard one day. They were putting in a basketball hoop for the kids, including the concrete for a court. It just so happened to be about 90 degrees out that day, but they had to do it because that’s when the cement truck was coming. I felt so bad watching them work so hard.
I knew I had to have something for them to eat when they were done. I could have ordered a pizza or burgers, but I know how they like homemade foods. So, I took out this recipe that I had saved from Group Recipes for Italian steak sandwiches.
Anything with the word steak in it was going to be a hit. I just cooked them up and kept the meat warm until they were just about done. Then I assembled them and tossed them in the oven.
Everyone came in and ate at least two. It was a good thing I doubled up the batch! They all thanked me, and me and the kids thanked them for all their hard work.
