Mary Ann is the mother of one of my friends, Sally. Sally invited us to their home one weekend because her mom wanted to see “the kids”, who were basically us, her childhood friends. We used to visit her home all the time when we were kids up to the time we were in college. However, that sort of stopped when we started having our own careers. It really was about time.
If only I had a lot of time, I will make sure to visit all of my friends’ parents who became like second parents to me. Sally begged and told us that Mary Ann truly wanted to see us.
And that her mother would prepare all of our favorite food when we go. She was famous for her vegetable quiche cups and we all requested for that.
When we arrived at their house, Mary Ann was already waiting for us in their front porch. It was a pleasant visit. Mary Ann was truly like a mother to us. She fed us a lot, saying we all looked underfed (that’s quite not true though).
And gave us the usual parent talk. She worries for all of us, just like our real parents. She told us that we should never forget to hope, because hope is the only thing left in this world that could change anything.
I agree with her. It’s hope that keeps us moving, keeps us fighting for the things we want in life. We all went home the day with both of our stomachs and hearts satisfied.
