Vintage German Chocolate Sheet Cake: A 1950’s Classic

When it comes to vintage recipes I am all ears. I LOVE hearing about the foods that our grandmothers used to cook, especially desserts. This vintage German chocolate sheet cake is a real gem. It’s easy to make and tastes like a miracle. I love the simple ingredients in this recipe and how nicely they come together. I made this cake for a church cookout last summer and it was a mega hit amongst the masses. Grandma would have been so very proud of my efforts 🙂

Now, I don’t get to make this cake as often as I’d like as my husband hates coconut and my youngest son has a tree nut allergy. I’ve tried to leave the tree nuts out of the mix(yes, coconut is a tree nut) but the cake is no longer considered german chocolate if you do that so what’s the point?

However, when we have a family gathering or other special event I will make this vintage German chocolate cake and make my husband and the boy something else. Everyone is happy when I do it that way. A win for Team Mom!
