Old-Fashioned Amish-Inspired Beef Casserole Dinner

This dish cooks low and slow for two hours making it perfect for weekends or on days that you will be home in the afternoon. You can get dinner in the oven early and the get on to whatever else you have to do around the house. Time it out just right and you will have dinner on the table at your regular time. I will sometimes throw this in as soon as I get home from work and it’s done just about at the perfect time. My husband really enjoys this with some crusty bread to soak up the extra juices. That’s one word to describe this incredible meal. It’s awesome for cold winter days. It warms you right up!

 

Ingredients

2 cups raw ground beef

2 cups raw potatoes, sliced

2 cups celery, chopped

1/2 cup onions, diced

2 teaspoons Morton salt or less

1/4 teaspoon McCormick’s pepper

1 cup green pepper, diced

2 cups canned tomatoes

1 medium onion, thinly sliced (optional)

 

 

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease a casserole dish. Sprinkle each layer with salt and pepper before adding the next layer.
Place potatoes in the bottom of the casserole. Add the layer of celery. Add the layer of hamburger. Add the layer of onions. Add the layer of green pepper. Pour the tomatoes over the mixture.
Bake for 2 hours.
