Happy Housewife Ham And Noodle Surprise!

Since moving to Pennsylvania from Michigan, I’ve learned how to cook quite a few new and exciting foods.

For example, I never really knew what apple dumplings were before moving here or how to make “gobs” as they like to call them around these parts. Where I come from, we call them “whoopie pies.” The folks in western PA sure do love their casseroles and for good reason, too!

They are spectacular. A lot of the influence behind casserole dishes such as ham and noodle are the Amish people. For centuries, the Amish have been cooking up wonderful dishes that are staples in their households. Ham and noodle casserole is one of these delicious staples.

I’ve made quite a few Amish friends since moving out here and they have graciously taught me how to make a few of their amazing dishes. I attend a Mennonite church so I have access to a variety of different people. I really enjoy how the ladies have embraced me and taught me some wonderful tricks to utilize around the kitchen.

Quick Tip: I’ve made this delicious casserole with both ham and turkey meat before and both turned out great. I suppose you could use shredded chicken, too.
