Fruitcake Cookie Bars Are Simply Amazing

The family was not a fan of fruitcakes.

Mom hated the rum. Dad didn’t like the fruits combined with the alcohol. I didn’t like the smell; it’s making me feel heady. And my brother didn’t like how it looked (he said it looked muddy and yucky). You would never find a fruitcake recipe in Mom’s personal cookbook. Ever. It’s something that we skipped on every Christmas. We could live without it, thank you very much! You should guess how many fruitcakes that were given to us as presents found their way to another family’s hands. I knew it wasn’t really a good act, but it’s better to have someone eat them than let them go wasted.

Now that I’m old enough to have drunk alcohol, I can tolerate fruitcakes. I even have a slice whenever it’s being offered. The truth is, I started liking it. It will never be my favorite, but it’s not on my hate list anymore. My tolerance for it is intensified by this recipe. These fruitcake bar cookies just taste a whole lot better than a fruitcake. It’s kind of sweeter with only a hint of the alcohol. And it smells better too! You want to check this recipe out. Even the most stubborn fruitcake hater will like this recipe!
