Friday Night Fried Cabbage And Sausage Skillet

Just the way Gramps used to make this!

I have been raised on cabbage dinners due to my mother being a fabulous Polish/Hungarian lady. Her mother taught her how to make all kinds of yummy things using cabbage, stewed tomatoes, and sausage. I frequently make meals like this for my family and they seem to enjoy them, all right. This recipe for fried cabbage is very filling and super good. It is also very easy to make and doesn’t require any fancy footwork. All you do is dice, shred, and toss the ingredients into a frying pan. I like to use my old cast iron skillet for this recipe. Let me know how your fried cabbage and sausage turns out in the comments 🙂

I like to use my old cast iron skillet for this recipe. You can use whatever skillet you have on hand. If using a cast iron skillet please make sure that it is well seasoned so that your cabbage does not stick to the pan. I season my pan with a mixture of coconut and olive oil.

This is a great meal to make when ending your week. It’s simple, easy, and filling. It’s also quite flavorful. You can play around with different seasonings and spices to personalize your experience. Let me know how your fried cabbage and sausage turns out in the comments 🙂

I like to make fried cabbage and bacon its simpler I cut the bacon in small pieces and add onion then add cabbage and let it simmer

I make a recipe similar to this and I also use bacon pieces with the cabbage and onions. I always use kielbasi and serve it over bow tie noodles! Delish!!

My mother cooked cabbage. When fried, Never preboiled and fried in bacon grease if available, otherwise butter. Delicious!

Fried mine with a little organic low sodium ckicken bone broth. No need to add a stick of butter, or any salt that way. Also added garlic, and red pepper.

Sounds very good. I agree with Mr. Barbetta. I’ll use chicken broth to cover, along with 1/4 stick of butter. When the broth cooks off and the cabbage is sautéed golden brown, then I’ll add the tomatoes with juice, a dash of sugar, a dash of Worcestershire, and simmer til Cabbage is soft. I love cabbage. I w/definitely be making this soon.

I make a similar dish… stick of butter in large dutch oven, 1 head chopped cabbage and 1 lb. kielbsa- sliced. Put on simmer and let it cook down stirring frequently. I then slice up potatoes with sliced onion and fry. Salt and pepper to taste then I put the potatoes and onions in the dutch oven with the cabbage and stir. Easy, yummy and good for you.
Family favorite. (Not processed food)

Thanks for the fried cabbage recipe. When I made it, my husband said it’s one of the best recipes I’ve tried out on him. I was glad you said to saute the sausage in the first step. That 5 minute saute makes a big difference in the taste. Your suggestion to fry this in a cast iron skillet is a good one, too. One tip 🙂 you said to serve this with French bread. This fried cabbage deserves crusty CORN BREAD baked in my OTHER cast iron skillet to make it a perfect meal. Thank you for posting great, and always easy, recipes.

This would be very tasty served with pierogis. They could be cooked right with the vegies or cooked ahead and added.

i start with bacon, reserve grease to fry potatoes, then cabbage ,onions, peppers and sausage, and i don’t do tomatoes, but you can add mushrooms.
