These Christmas “Strawberries” Aren’t What They Appear!

I love vintage recipes for candy and these Christmas strawberries are definitely from another time era. They are adorable, sweet, and a wonderful holiday treat. When I first saw these strawberries I totally thought they were the real fruit. They look so realistic! Instead of a mouthful of fruit, you get a lovely candy to enjoy. These yummy strawberries aren’t hard to make and they look great on your holiday table.

Oh boy! These colorful Christmas strawberries would make an excellent addition to any holiday gift box.

Ingredients

1 pkg. Baker’s shredded coconut

5 oz. walnuts (about 1-1/4 cups)

14 oz. can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk 2 Tbsp. sugar

1 (3 oz. pkg.) strawberry Jell-O ®

red and green colored sugars

Instructions

In a food processor or blender mix together coconut and nuts. Place in large mixing bowl.

Combine dry Jell-O ®, sugar and milk. Pour over coconut mixture. Mix well.

Take about a teaspoon of mixture and shape into a strawberry. (I roll in a ball first then shape) The trick to these is to not make them too big or it will take away the strawberry effect.

Gently roll in red sugar, then dip top of strawberry into green sugar. Place on a waxed paper covered cookie sheet to dry overnight.

Store in airtight container. These freeze well.

Makes about 5 or 6 dozen.

* Note* These are sticky. Wet hands a bit before shaping.
